A Memorandum of Understanding has been entered into between the University of Jaffna and IIT Madras to promote academic and research development.
- To further strengthen academic collaboration and enhance research efforts, the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka and the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
- The agreement aims to enhance intercultural learning experiences between the two countries and strengthen academic diversity through the exchange of students and faculty between the two universities.
Japan-India joint maritime exercise “JIMEX 23” begins.
- JIMEX 23, the seventh edition of maritime exercise between Japan and India, begins in Visakhapatnam on July 05 under the leadership of the Indian Navy.
- The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force units and major naval vessels of the Indian Navy are participating in the exercise. The Navy has informed that the exercise will be conducted in two phases for six days.
DGCA has entered into an MoU with the EU Aviation Safety Agency to enhance aviation cooperation.
- It has signed an MoU with the Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to enhance unmanned aerial systems and ground operational cooperation.
- The MoU is aimed at accelerating the growth of the Indian unmanned aviation industry and enhancing cooperation between the two authorities on Technological developments & research.
An MoU has been signed between CII and MIT-ADT University to promote startups.
- The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and MIT University of Arts, Design and Technology have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 05, 2023.
- The MoU is aimed at promoting corporate start-up & innovative linkages, promoting comprehensive development of students and creating mechanisms to further enhance their activities’ involvement in the society.
MHA has launched a new scheme to modernize fire services in the states.
- The Union Home Ministry on July 5 launched a new Rs 5,000-crore scheme to expand and modernize fire services in all states of India.
- It aims to strengthen critical preparedness measures to strengthen fire services at the state level, the Union Home Ministry said.
An MoU has been signed to set up an IIT Madras campus in Tanzania.
- An MoU was signed between the Ministry of Education (MoE) Government of India and the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (MoEVT) Government of Tanzania on July 06 to establish the IIT Madras campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
- The Tanzanian government said it marks a historic start to the internationalization of higher education and will further strengthen bilateral education standards.

The 67th TAAI Conference begins in Colombo.
- The much awaited 67th Summit of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) is scheduled to take place on 6th July in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka. The conference is held for 3 days.
- The conference aims to promote India’s tourism to 2047 and promote the ever-expanding digital opportunities in an appropriate growth path and strengthen ties between India and Sri Lanka.
Diplomatic relations between Egypt and Turkey have been renewed after several years by appointing new ambassadors.
- In 2013, some divisive political turmoil in Egypt led to a breakdown in royal relations between the two countries. Again after a decade the relations between the two countries are renewed by appointing New Ambassadors.
- Mr. Amr Elhamamy is Egypt’s ambassador in Ankara while the Turkish government has appointed Salih Mutlu Sen as its ambassador in Cairo. It is reported that through this action, the disputes between the two countries will be resolved through dialogue.

International Conference on Green Hydrogen begins in New Delhi.
- The International Conference on Green Hydrogen 2023 (ICGH 2023) was inaugurated by Power Minister RK Singh on July 05 2023 in New Delhi.
- The conference is a three-day conference. Also, the conference aims to establish a green hydrogen ecosystem and promote decarbonisation through green hydrogen across the world.

Shekhar Kapur won the British National Award for Best Director.
- At the British National Awards in England, “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” Shekhar Kapur has been awarded the best director award for the film.
- It is notable that the film has won four awards including Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor, Best Director and Best British Film while the film was nominated in a total of nine categories at the festival. And recently, Shekhar Kapur was awarded the “Lifetime Contribution to UK-India Relations” award at the IGF’s UK-India Awards.

The Tamil Nadu player has won the Asian Under-20 Male Athlete of the Year award.
- Tamil Nadu triple jumper Selva Prabhu Thirumaran has made history by becoming the first Indian to win the Asian Under-20 Male Athlete of the Year 2023 award.
- The Asian Athletics Association (AAA) has announced that Selva Prabhu Thirumaran, who won silver at the recent World Athletics U-20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, will receive this prestigious award. It is also reported that 18-year-old Selva Prabhu Thirumaran will receive this special award during the “AAA 50th Anniversary Celebration” to be held in Bangkok, Thailand.
Aadhav Arjuna has been elected as the president of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI).
- Aadhav Arjuna, the current President of the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association (TNBA), has been elected as the President of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) in the elections held at Nehru Stadium, Chennai on July 05. He won this election by securing 38 votes out of 39.
- It is also notable that former player and President of Madhya Pradesh Basketball Association Kulvinder Singh Gill has won this election and has been elected as General Secretary.
The Indian team has won the SAFF Championship trophy for the ninth time.
- The Indian team won the SAFF Championship football match held at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka on the night of July 04.
- It is significant that the Indian team has won the SAFF Championship trophy for the ninth time with this. The Football Association of India said that with this victory, the Indian football team has shown their talent on the world stage.
Indian pair win gold at World Archery Youth Championship
- Indian archers Avneet Kaur and Priyansh won gold in the junior mixed team event after defeating Israel in the final of the World Archery Youth Championships in Limerick, Ireland on July 5.
- It is notable that the Indian players defeated Israel by the score of 146-144 in this thrilling final game. It is also notable that India’s Aishwarya Sharma and Manav Jadhav won the bronze medal by defeating Mexico in the cadet mixed event.

World Zoonoses Day 2023
- World Zoonoses Day is observed every year on July 6th to commemorate and honor the success of Louis Pasteur, a French scientist who first vaccinated a boy named Joseph Meister against a zoonotic disease (rabies) caused by the bite of a rabid dog. Zoonotic diseases are diseases that can be transmitted to humans by insects or especially animals.
- The theme for this year is “One World, One Health: Prevent Zoonoses, Stop the Spread”.
