July 23 – National Broadcasting day
On this day in 1927, the first ever radio broadcast in the country went on the air from the Bombay Station under a private company, the Indian Broadcasting Company. On 8th of June, 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting Service became All India Radio.
Bridge Over Brahmaputra to Link Dhubri in Assam with Phulbari in Meghalaya
The work of construction of four-lane bridge including approaches over River Brahmaputra between Dhubri on North Bank in Assam and Phulbari on South Bank in Meghalaya is being taken up with loan assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The estimated cost of this work is Rs. 4997.04 crore.
GSLV MkIII-M1 Successfully Launches Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft
India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle GSLV MkIII-M1, successfully launched the 3840 kg Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft into an earth orbit. GSLV Mk III is a three-stage launch vehicle developed by ISRO. The vehicle has two solid strap-ons, a core liquid booster and a cryogenic upper stage.
The mission objective of Chandrayaan-2 is to develop and demonstrate the key technologies for end-to-end lunar mission capability, including soft-landing and roving on the lunar surface. On the science front, this mission aims to further expand our knowledge about the Moon through a detailed study of its topography, mineralogy, surface chemical composition, thermo-physical characteristics and atmosphere leading to a better understanding of the origin and evolution of the Moon.
NASA prepares to send “first woman and next man” on Moon in 2024
The U.S. space agency NASA is preparing to take its next giant leap with the ambitious Artemis programme that could see the “first woman and the next man” walk on the lunar surface. Artemis is named after the twin sister of Apollo who is also the Goddess of the Moon and the hunt. The programme to return astronauts to the lunar surface is planned to launch by 2024, according to the U.S. space agency.

FDI inflow registered growth of 79% during last 6 years
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflow has increased during the last six years from 36.05 billion US Dollars in 2013-14 to 64.38 billion US Dollars in 2018-19, registering a growth of 79 per cent.
Keshav Dutt, Prasun Banerjee chosen for Mohun Bagan Ratna
Two-time Olympic gold medallist Keshav Dutt and former India Football Captain Prasun Banerjee will be conferred the ‘Mohun Bagan Ratna’ during its annual daycelebrations on the 29th of this month. July 29 is celebrated as the ‘Mohun Bagan Day’ because on this day in 1911, the Mariners became the first club to defeat a British club, East Yorkshire Regiment, and lift the IFA Shield.
M.M. Naravane to be next Vice-Chief of Army Staff
Lieutenant-General M.M. Naravane, currently General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Army Command, has been appointed the next Vice-Chief of the Army Staff in a series of changes in the Army’s top brass, defence sources said. He will take over from Lt. Gen. D. Anbu when he retires on August 31.

21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships
In Table Tennis, hosts India completed a clean sweep, claiming all the seven gold medals at the 21st Commonwealth Championships, which concluded in Cuttack. Indian paddlers topped the medals tally with seven gold, five silver and three bronze. England won two silver and three bronze medals. Singapore got 6 bronze medals while Malaysia and Nigeria got 1 bronze each.
