IIP sets up plant to turn plastic waste into diesel
Union Minister for Science and Technology, Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated a waste plastics to diesel plant in Dehradun. The plant has been set up in the Indian Institute of Petroleum whose scientists will process waste plastics into fuel. It has the capacity to produce 800-litre diesel from one tonne of plastic.
Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi to be renamed as Arun Jaitley Stadium
Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi will be renamed as Arun Jaitley Stadium in memory of its former president who passed away recently. During his tenure at DDCA, Arun Jaitley is credited with renovating Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium into a modern facility, increasing its capacity to accommodate more fans besides constructing world-class dressing rooms.
Bus service between Nepal’s capital Kathmandu to India’s Siliguri started
A bus service between Nepal’s capital Kathmandu and India’s Siliguri in West Bengal has started. Nepal’s Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transportation Raghubir Mahaseth and Indian Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri flagged off the bus from Kathmandu.
Kazi Nazrul Islam’s 43rd death anniversary being observed in Bangladesh
The 43rd death anniversary of the rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is being observed on August 27 in Bangladesh. Known as the Rebel Poet or Bidrohi Kobi Nazrul wrote nearly 3000 songs and composed many of them which are known as Nazrul Geeti. His poems were a source of inspiration during the liberation war of Bangladesh.
Rare tarantula sighted in Villupuram district
The spider belonging to the genus Poecilotheria, commonly known as the Peacock Parachute Spider or Gooty Tarantula was spotted by a team of researchers of the Puducherry-based Indigenous Biodiversity Foundation (IBF) in the Pakkamalai Reserve Forests near Gingee in Villupuram district.
NOC online Application Processing System for National Monuments Authority
The Minister of State for Culture & Tourism (Independent Charge), Shri Prahlad Singh Patel launched an integrated NOC online Application Processing System for National Monuments Authority (NMA) for 517 local bodies of six states in New Delhi today. This will help in online processing of applications requesting NOC for construction-related work in prohibited and regulated area of ASI protected monuments.
Mobile application-“Janaushadhi Sugam” launched
Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Shri D.V. Sadananda Gowda launched a mobile application “Janaushadhi Sugam” and had announced that “Jan Aushadhi Suvidha Oxo-Biodegradable Sanitary Napkin” will now be available at only One Rupee per pad. “Janaushadhi Sugam” will enable people to search for Janaushadhi generic medicines and the stores at the tip of their fingers.
India to host COP14 of UN Convention to Combat Desertification
India will host the Conference Of Parties, COP 14, of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification from 2nd to 13th of next month. Briefing media in New Delhi today, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the Government has targeted that 50 Lakh hectares of degraded land will be made fertile in 10 years and a Center of Excellence will be established in Forest Research Institute in Dehradun.
Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2018
Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards are given every year to recognize the achievements of persons in the fields of adventure by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The award is given in four categories namely, Land Adventure, Water Adventure, Air Adventure and Life Time Achievement.
Aparna Kumar, Late Shri Dipankar Ghosh, Shri Manikandan K. was awarded for Land Adventure. Shri Prabhat Raju Koli for Water Adventure. Shri RameshwerJangra for Air Adventure and Shri Wangchuk Sherpa was awarded Life Time Achievement award.
ICC Test ranking
Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli maintained his lead over Australia’s Steve Smith in the latest ICC Cricket Test rankings released in Dubai. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is placed third and India’s Cheteshwar Pujara is placed fourth. Speedster Jasprit Bumrah also made his maiden entry into the top-10.
India bags four medals in Worldskills Kazan competition
The Indian team created history by winning one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the 45th WorldSkills Kazan 2019 competition, in Russia. S Aswatha Narayana won the gold medal in water technology. Pranav Nutalapati won silver medal in web technologies. Sanjoy Pramanik and Shweta Ratanpura won one bronze medal each in Jewellery and graphic design technology.
