22 August – International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief
The General Assembly adopted the resolution A/RES/73/296, and designated August 22 as “The International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief” strongly condemning continuing violence and acts of terrorism targeting individuals, including persons belonging to religious minorities, on the basis of or in the name of religion or belief.
Government to make FASTag mandatory for all vehicles from Dec 2019
Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that FASTags will become mandatory for all vehicles from December this year. FASTag enabled vehicles can cruise through the dedicated FASTag lane without stopping at toll plazas on National Highways.
National Conference on Capacity Building of Sustainable Food Value Chains
A two-day National Conference on Capacity Building of Sustainable Food Value Chains for Enhanced Food Safety and Quality organized by National Productivity Council (NPC) in collaboration with Asian Productivity Organization, Tokyo, Japan began in New Delhi.
The Diary of Manu Gandhi
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Tourism, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel will launch the book ‘the Diary of Manu Gandhi’ (1943-44) at a function in the auditorium of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.
The book has been brought out by National Archives of India, on the occasion of 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in collaboration with Oxford University Press. The Diary of Manu Gandhi originally in Gujarati has been edited and translated by Dr Tridip Suhrud. Manu Gandhi (Mridula) was a grand niece of Mahatma Gandhi.
Power Minister Shri RK Singh launches SARAL ‘State Rooftop Solar Attractiveness Index
Shri RK Singh, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy (IC) and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, launched the State Rooftop Solar Attractiveness Index–SARAL. The State of Karnataka has been placed at the first rank in the Index that evaluates Indian states based on their attractiveness for rooftop development. Telangana, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh have got 2nd, 3rd and 4th rank respectively.
MoU signed between India and Zambia
The MoU was signed in the field on Cooperation in the field of Geology and Mineral Resources, Defence, field of Arts & Culture. The MoU also signed between Foreign Service Institute of India and Zambian Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies and MoU on EVBAB Network Project and between Election Commission of India and Electoral Commission of Zambia.
Rajiv Gauba appointed new Cabinet Secretary
Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba was appointed as new Cabinet Secretary. Mr Gauba who is a 1982 batch IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre will replace P.K. Sinha, The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mr Gauba as the Cabinet Secretary with a tenure of two years from 30th of this month.
Ajay Kumar appointed as Defence Secretary
The government has appointed Ajay Kumar as Defence Secretary. Ajay Kumar, is a 1985 batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre and is currently serving as Secretary, Department of Defence Production.
Secretary to the Lokpal
Shri Brij Kumar Agarwal, IAS presently in the Cadre, has been appointed as Secretary to the Lokpal in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India.
Union HRD Minister launches NISHTHA
Union Human Resource Development Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ launched the National Mission to improve Learning Outcomes at the Elementary level- NISHTHA, National Initiative for School Heads and Teachers Holistic Advancement at Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. During the programme, NISHTHA Website, Training Modules, Primer Booklet and a Mobile App were also launched by the Minister.
Kiren Rijiju, Baichung Bhutia flag off Delhi leg of Op-Blue Freedom
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and former India football captain Baichung Bhutia flagged off the Delhi leg of Op-Blue Freedom. This is an initiative in which a group of armed forces veterans train sports enthusiasts in survival training and self-defence. Op-Blue Freedom is a nation-wide adaptive scuba diving programme for people with disabilities as well as the able bodied.
CISF makes the nation proud by 10 Medals in World Police and Fire Games at Chengdu,China
The World Police and Fire Games are an Olympic-style competition with 10,000 athletes representing from 70+ countries across the world competing in 60+ sports. The World Police and Fire Games-2019 was held from 08-18 August, 2019 at Chengdu, China wherein CISF sports personnel represented India in different sporting events and won ten (10) medals.
