August 20 – World Mosquito Day
World mosquito day is celebrated annually on August 20. It is a commemoration of a British doctor, Sir Ronald Ross’s discovery in 1897 that ‘female mosquitoes transmit malaria between humans’. The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine organizes world mosquito day celebrations every year, since the 1930s.
August 20 – former PM Rajiv Gandhi 75th birth anniversary
The nation is paying homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 75th birth anniversary. Rajiv Gandhi served as Prime Minister from 1984 to 1989. This day is also observed as Sadbhavna Diwas to promote national integration and communal harmony among people of all religion and languages.
Union Home Minister lays foundation stone of Karbi Bhawan and Dimasa Bhawan
The Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah said that overall development of North East region is the priority of the Government. He was addressing at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Karbi Bhawan and Dimasa Bhawan of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Diphu and North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, Haflong, at Dwarka.
PM Modi to embark on 3-day visit to UAE, Bahrain
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-nation tour of France, UAE and Bahrain on 22nd of this month. This will be the first-ever Prime Ministerial visit from India to the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Chandrayaan-2 moon mission ready to enter lunar orbit today
Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman Dr. K Sivan has informed that Chandrayaan-2 moon mission will have lunar orbit ion at around 9.30 am. The liquid engine onboard the spacecraft will be fired to slow down the spacecraft until Moon’s gravity captures it.Chandrayaan 2 was launched on July 22 by GSLV Mark III-M1 launch vehicle and after around 29 days, its ion into lunar orbit today will be considered as another milestone for ISRO

After over a dozen public sector banks, including State Bank of India, have voluntarily linked their loans and deposits pricing to the repo rate. Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das stressed on the need for the entire system switching to this model. Speaking at an annual banking conference organized by the industry lobby FICCI in Mumbai, the RBI Governor said such a move can speed up the monetary transmission process.
India’s junior women boxers win 4 gold medals at Serbian tourney
India’s junior women boxers clinched 12 medals at the third Nation’s Cup in Vrbas, Serbia. The team won four gold, four silver and four bronze medals and claimed the runners-up trophy. Over 160 boxers from 20 countries participated in this tournament, for which India sent a 13-member squad.
Indian team retain top-spot in ICC test rankings
Indian skipper Virat Kohli retained the top spot in the latest Test batsmen’s rankings released by the International Cricket Council in Dubai today.
